Components of the PatientLocatorTM

PatientLocatorTM Module is a wireless patient tracking and patient/resource flow analysis system. The Patient Locator includes the SmartWristBand that has a radiofrequency (RF) chip that allows the location of the patient to be monitored in real time. Beds, housekeeping personnel, specific nurses or others can also be monitored. The data obtained from the real time location of these people and objects is analyzed by the PatientLocator analysis system that is utilized for process improvement, quality management, business process optimization, personnel optimization, and other administrative purposes. PatientLocator optimizes the workflow that moves beds and patients through the beds increases throughput in Emergency Department (ED), ICU, and the floors. Patients are often held in the ED awaiting an ICU bed that is itself occupied by someone who is awaiting a telemetry bed that has not yet been cleaned because housekeeping is not yet aware that bed should be cleaned as a high priority to untangle the system. Integration of the ED, ICU and the floors can markedly improve length of stay in the ED, resource allocation, quality measures and patient satisfaction.

PatientLocator Software: software that monitors the identity and location of each patient as well as specified hospital personnel who directly impact bed flow. The software comes with a number of flow control and productivity process improvement routines, but through customization and user selection, the hospital can design patient flow processes, monitor outcomes, and refine techniques.

PatientLocator Hardware: RFID antennae, cabling and associated hardware as well as the computer server that operates the module. When MyHealthArchive, MyHistory, SatisFACTion or WhatsWhen are included, PatientLocator Hardware includes the monitors and input devices that enable patients to interact with the software systems, and therefore with their healthcare world.

ProcessFlowTM Software: automated analytical processes to evaluate patient flow, bed flow and the workflow processes that relate the location and movement of patients to hospital resources.

ProcessFlowTM Consultation / Customization: a service to expand on the knowledgebase of productivity, efficiency and analytical tools included in ProcessFlow software to adapt to the specific needs and circumstances of each hospital for productivity or process improvement initiatives.

SmartWristBandTM: a miniature wireless communication device worn on the wrist that is automatically and passively monitored by the PatientLocator Module. The wristband is encoded with patient identification information that serves to notify the hospital of his or her location as well as serving as a passive log-on device for the computer console. SmartWristBandTM allows rapid sign-on to the PatientConsoleTM. This affords an impaired person access without exhausting or frustrating the patient. Customizable alerts can be set to notify hospital personnel when a patient has wandered off course, as in the confused patient.

MyHealthArchive, MyHistory, SatisFACTion and WhatsWhen: some institutions will desire these components of the PatientWindow Module but may not initially purchase the whole PatientCentral System.
